At the SGA meeting on Wednesday, senators contemplated several areas of improving campus life at Trinity.

Changes to the upper campus was part of the discussion. The senators agreed that more furniture and sitting areas are needed there. Currently, there are only some benches and white chairs. “We have received a $1,000 donation that we hadn’t even known about,” said SGA President Ty Tinker. He hoped to use this money to add more chairs and tables around campus to create a more “community vibe.”

The senators also talked about adding more lighting to the upper campus since it gets rather dark in the late night. Students could feel unsafe with the dimness and not enough emergency poles.

On Tuesday, Trinity University announced awarding the new dining services contract to Aramark, which has provided dining services to Trinity since 1984.

The following day, Aramark held a campus wide forum to provide more details of their proposal.

Personnel of the Aramark dining services sat alongside three student executives from the TUFit Health Club at Monday’s SGA meeting, discussing better ways to provide quality food services to Trinity students.

TUFit was particularly interested in coloring the plates of Trinity students with wholesome, locally grown foods.

“Our current goal is that by 2020, 20% of all campus food will be locally sourced,” said TUFit’s President, senior biology major, Hayley Sayrs. As the manager of the newly launched Trinity Market, Sayrs is especially passionate about bringing more locally grown food to Trinity’s dining hall.

“Students have every right to know what they are putting in their bodies,” said Sayrs at Monday’s meeting. More importantly, “they should also know how far this food traveled to land upon their plate.”
