At 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, more than 30 Trinity University students queued up along Flores Street in downtown San Antonio, to cheer on participants of the Street2Feet 5K running race.

The race began at 8:00 a.m. with the starting line on West Houston Street. More than 1,000 people registered to run, including 40 homeless individuals who had trained for months for this 5 kilometer race, according to Stree2Feet co-founder Elizabeth Rosenblum.

Street2Feet provides exercise programs for individuals experiencing homelessness in San Antonio, as a way of building healthy body and spirit. “This race is a fundraiser and an extension of Street2Feet,” said Rosenblum. She noted that both homeless and settled individuals participated.

Seizing the Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity: Trinity Students' Involvement in the NCAA Final Four

By Lauren Bagg

Trinity student Amanda Gerlach, a sophomore communication and Spanish double major with a sport management minor, was an ambassador for Westwood One Radio Row during the NCAA Final Four, held in San Antonio earlier this month. Her job was taking past and current coaches, players and other people involved with college basketball for interviews at different radio stations.

Gerlach saw this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because she was able to “spend time talking with them too, which was really nice!” she said. “I even got a picture with Bill Walton.”

With an attendance of more than 200 students, yesterday’s Spring Volunteerism Fair was a roaring success. The fair was held by Trinity’s School of Business in cooperation with the Center for Experiential learning and Career Success.

Two dozens of local organizations came together to help enlist the Trinity community to extend a hand in volunteering and helping others.

“We are here to show Trinity students the many opportunities that are available to them,” said Eric Uriegas, Recruitment Manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters. “There are a lot of organizations nearby that help the greater San Antonio Area, it is important that these organizations have a presence in the minds of college students.”
