Delta Sigma Pi and Trinity Diversity Connection (TDC) hosted a Diversity in Business roundtable on Thursday.

In fact, roundtable discussion was not the original plan. The organizers had planned a panel discussion with eight speakers, but about 20 local business representatives came. The organizers then decided to put the local professionals and about 30 students into small groups for roundtable discussions.

Trinity Diversity Connection will be hosting the annual “Taste of Diversity” event in April, and other student organizations were called upon to contribute at a meeting on Thursday.

Representatives of the Trinity University Sponsored Organizations gathered at the meeting to give updates on their organizations and discuss future events.

Kezia Nyarko, a sophomore majoring in African Studies and French and president of Trinity Diversity Connection, announced that Taste of Diversity will take place in April on the Esplanade. Different cultural groups and organizations on campus will bring foods representing their respective cultures. The event is free and open to all students.

As TDC President Samsara Davalos Reyes grabs lunch at the Commons, she pauses to greet the employees, switching from English to rapid-fire Spanish. Her sunny personality and bright pink lipstick make the sophomore sociology major hard to miss.

“They’re so sweet here, aren’t they?” She says brightly as she walks away with her food in hand.

This is one thing that immediately stands out about Reyes— her optimism and desire to engage with others translates well to her role as president of the Trinity Diversity Connection. In a campus that features a primarily white student body, that engagement is especially crucial.
