More than 200 Trinity University students gathered at Cowboys Dance Hall in San Antonio, where singer-songwriter Aaron Einhouse opened the 11th annual Concert for the Cure on Saturday.

The crowd two stepped in cowboy boots to the music, which also included a performance by country singer Roger Creager. Members of Gamma Chi Delta, the Trinity sorority that started this concert, all donned their green jersey.

The ticket for the concert was $10 in advance and $20 at the door. The proceeds help fund Camp Discovery, a week-long summer camp in Kerrville, Texas for children, aged 7 to 16, who are either diagnosed with cancer or in remission. The camp is provided to these children and their families at no cost.

“I had a ton of fun,” said Claire Poland, sophomore, a member of Gamma Chi Delta. “I think we were able to reach our goal and support a wonderful charity.” She also commended the support from Trinity University. “They have been wonderful in helping us push towards our cause.”

Gamma Chi Delta started Concert for the Cure in 2005, inspired by some members’ experience with childhood cancer. By 2015, the Concert for the Cure Foundation, established in 2009, has donated over $180,000 to Camp Discovery, according to the foundation’s website.

This year, many other Greek organizations at Trinity also came to support. “This event helps all sororities and fraternities come together as one Greek unit to not only have a blast dancing, but to also support a wonderful cause,” said Diana Riddle, sophomore, a member of Sigma Theta Tau, who attended the event.

Nicole Thompson, junior, the Philanthropy Chair of Gamma Chi Delta and concert organizer, was pleased with the outcome of this year’s event. “Everything went smoothly and Cowboys was packed!”

  1. Annual parties are always fun when they are celebrated but organizing a concert become even more fun. Last week, I had a music party at local venues in NYC; I invited some of my close friends there and spent some quality time there.
