Trinity’s baseball team suffered a 8-4 loss to Texas Lutheran University (TLU) during a home game on Friday, losing their second conference game in a row after last week’s upset by Schreiner University.

TLU got momentum early in the game, scoring three runs in the first inning. Trinity was out hit by TLU 11-15 and the score reflected the absence of runs.

TLU’s pitcher mixed up his pitches very well, trying to get batters off balanced, as well as being very consistent, said Trinity pitcher Colin Serkowski.

Defensively, pitching for the Tigers was not as effective as it usually is. The Tigers went through four pitchers throughout the nine inning game. Coach David Smith said that the pitchers “needed to do a better job at executing pitches,” in order for the team to get outs that they needed to stop TLU from scoring more.

Ian Hussian, freshman, was called in from the bullpen to the game during the sixth inning. “Going into the game, my approach was just to focus on the next batter. I wanted to find the strike zone and get strikes early in the count,” he said.

The Tigers faced TLU again on Saturday to continue the three-game series. Serkowski was very confident in his team, saying “the key to the rest of the series is to string our hits together in bunches, as well as improve our hitting with runners in scoring positions.”

The Tigers concluded the series on Saturday, losing game one 15-5, but then coming back to win game two 12-4.

Trinity currently dropped to second place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and will face Austin College on Saturday, April 23 to conclude conference play before the conference tournament starts the following weekend.
