Adrien Lavigne: Up and Coming Singer and Song Writer

By Victoria Abad

Adrien Lavigne, 21, also known by his artistic name Adri, is starting to build his image as a musician. The Trinity University senior is working hard to put his name out in the music world with an original and multi-style acoustic sound. He is also getting used to the attention his music has brought him.

“I’ve never done anything like this before,” he said while fixing his hair during an interview with The Roar. “It’s my first time,” he explained, settling comfortably in the chair. There is no doubt that he will only do more interviews in the near future.

Lavigne released his first song, "Feel Alone,"which he wrote, on March 2nd on YouTube, his own website and Tunecore, a platform that allows artists to distribute their work through other online retailers such as iTunes and Spotify.

Soon after the release, Trinity University President Danny Anderson tweeted, "Congratulations Adrien on full release of your song!" He was also featured in the university's daily news letter, LeeRoy.

Lavigne is a senior international business and Spanish double major, a guitar player, singer and a song writer. Born in France but growing up in the U.S., Lavigne started to play guitar as a kid. He developed a passion for music and learned song writing on his own, having not received formal guitar or music lessons. He wrote the songs he recently released years back, but only now felt ready to establish his artistic image.

“I love building a song from the ground up and making something whole that has an impact on others,” he said. His multicultural background gives his music a unique blend, which he describes as a chill, rhythmic and festive combination between Jack Johnson and John Mayer with a Latino influence.

Ivan Silverio, senior majoring in business administration, appreciates the fusion in Lavigne’s music. “[The different styles are] definitely evident in his music, because you cannot really say it’s exactly something you’ve heard before - it’s a mix,” Silverio said. “The acoustic element is like a breath of fresh air to people in the music world.”

Lavigne’s friends are first-hand witnesses of his passion for music. “The man has really put in time and effort into improving his craft and finding his sound, and also in the production aspect,” said Silverio.

Senior Camila Londono is one of Lavigne’s most supportive fans and friends. “I always try to make sure he’s doing this because he likes it and not because he wants to become famous or because he wants to make money off of it,” she said.

And that's exactly what Lavigne is busy doing, making music. He is currently working on a new single, Málaga, which was released yesterday.

“If you’re gonna do something, don’t do it halfway, give it your all. So I’m trying to do it well. Record [the songs] well, do the marketing and advertising for it well,” said the rising musician.

Trinity and the world will be seeing and hearing Adri's name a lot more.
