Trinity’s Greek life welcomed nearly 200 new members on Friday’s Bid Day.
Bid Day is the day on which Trinity sororities and fraternities extend invitations or “bids” to their new members.
Among them were 129 new sorority members and 79 new fraternity members, who lined up at the Coates University Center to receive their bid cards from the Greek Council.
After receiving their bid cards, the new members sprinted to the Miller Fountain to meet with current members and be officially welcomed into various Greek clubs. Current members dressed in bright colors and outfits that represented their clubs, such as the men of Chi Delta Tau wearing yellow and the women of Alpha Chi Lambda wearing purple.
Men of Phi Sigma Chi even carried their new members from the Coates University Center to the fountain on their backs. “I didn’t expect to be carried! I couldn’t wait to get in the fountain,” said Elliott Flemming, a new member of Phi Sigma Chi.
“Bid Day was everything I imagined,” said Erin Eckert, a freshman and new member of
Sigma Theta Tau sorority.
“It was great seeing those I cared about so happy and full of spirit. I know everyone found new families perfect for them.”
After the Bid Day, the new members will spend the next four weeks in “orientation,” where they will be attending events, such as club dinners and mandatory study hours, to learn their clubs’ values.
Bid Day also marked the inauguration of a new Greek Council, the student organization that facilitates Greek Life such as standards, service, and recruitment.
Sarah Hantak is one of the new members of the Greek Council, serving as the standards and judicial chair for the year. “I ensure that everyone is following all the proper procedures, and I handle any allegations that an organization was not following the proper procedures. I also work to educate organizations on our new SPIn policies,” she said.
